Decision Theatre

AN INTERACTIVE MENTAL HEALTH THEATRE PROGRAMME – IN 2 × 45 MINUTES

Decision Theatre is a 2 × 45-minute interactive programme that can be integrated into a school lesson. Through live theatrical scenes and a guided reflection led by a professional, it addresses the mental health challenges affecting students.

It is not a frontal lecture.
The story stops at two points — and the students’ decisions shape what happens next.

1. TRUST EVERY YOUNG PERSON

Decision Theatre makes a commitment to treat young people not as “unfinished adults,” but as autonomous human beings, respecting their experiences and understanding, and striving to grasp what it means to be human.

2. MAINTAIN A HIGH FACILITATOR–YOUNG PERSON RATIO

We organise small-group sessions with a maximum of 30 young participants in order to ensure a high actor-facilitator to young person ratio, maximising participation and engagement.

3. PROFESSIONAL MENTAL HEALTH TEAM

Our professional mental health specialists ensure the safe and appropriate space needed for reflection and processing.

4. BE CRYSTAL CLEAR

Before each performance, we have clear and honest discussions with schools to explore whether any special approach is needed.

5. MAKE ART ACCESSIBLE

We bring art into familiar spaces that young people already use, breaking down one of the common barriers to participation in the arts: the sense of alienation often associated with institutional settings.

6. BUILD SAFE SPACES

Every drama session is carefully designed so that young people can enter the theatrical space and reflect on reality from a safe distance from their own experiences.

7. THERE ARE NO WRONG ANSWERS

We stand for the belief that there are no wrong answers, because what matters to us is not what is “correct,” but what young people think and the process through which they arrive at their conclusions.

8. ASK THE BIG QUESTIONS

We ask questions with purpose, and we are known for opening up young people’s imagination through deep and sensitive questions, helping them think in new ways

9. BE PRESENT IN THE MOMENT

We work in the present: we enter each session ready to respond to the thoughts of the young people who are there, as they process the experience and articulate what they want to talk about with us.
